Detailed List of ingredients in Attend

Isoleucine (L-Isoleucine)- This is one of the three critically important essential amino acid known as the Branched Chain Amino Acids (BCAA). BCAA's make up about 50% of the indispensable amino acids in the daily food supply. BCAA's are rather unique in that skeletal muscles may directly use them as an energy source. This is an anabolic substance which promotes protein synthesis. BCAA's are used up more rapidly in stressful conditions than other amino acids. Isoleucine is generally found to be deficient in chronically sick individuals. It is nutritionally useful in the formation of hemoglobin and is particularly important as well in building the body's tolerance for stress. In fact, in experimental situations, deficiency of isoleucine resulted in the occurrence of marked tremors and the twitching of the muscles of the extremities in controlled studies.

Leucine (L-Leucine)- Leucine, or L-leucine in its natural form, is an essential amino acid. It is one of the three amino acids which are called the branched chain amino acids (BCAAs). BCAAs make up about 50% of the indispensable amino acids in the daily food supply. BCAAs are rather unique in that skeletal muscles may directly use them as an energy source. BCAAs are used up more rapidly in stressful conditions than other amino acids.Furthermore, research has suggested that the supplementation of BCAAs, especially leucine, can nutritionally aid the body in enlivening the liver, especially after extended periods of alcohol abuse or other drug related damage. Leucine is an anabolic substance which promotes the body's building-up of materials, accelerating protein synthesis. Leucine is a major nutritional metabolic regulator and is the only amino acid that can substitute for glucose in the fasting animal. It is an alternative energy source for the body, and the most able to help the body maintain blood sugar levels. Leucine is also thought to be a nutritional precursor to the naturally occurring, hurt-relieving chemicals in our body called leucine-enkephalins.

Valine (L-Valine)- Valine in its "L-" form, L-Valine, is an essential amino acid. It is one of the three amino acids which are called the branched chain amino acids (BCAA). BCAA's make up about 50% of the indispensable amino acids in the daily food supply. BCAA's are rather unique in that skeletal muscles may directly use them as an energy source as they are an anabolic substance which promotes protein synthesis. BCAA's are used up in stressful conditions more rapidly than other amino acids. In controlled research experiments at the Brain-Bio Center in Princeton, New Jersey and elsewhere, removal of valine from the diet was thought to result in some noticeable but reversible changes to the red nuclei of the brain and the chief protein synthesizing machinery of the cells of the body. Deficiency of this and other amino acids causes the malabsorption of dietary nitrogen and protein. Valine is believed vital for mental function, muscle coordination and neural functioning.

Tyrosine (L-Tyrosine) This is a conditionally essential amino acid which works in the presence of ascorbic acid (vitamin C). It is a nutritional co-precursor of thyroid hormones and some neurochemicals called catecholamines which are natural hormonal substances that act as extra cellular messengers between the brain, central nervous tissue and endocrine system. Tyrosine, indirectly, is an all-natural nutritional precursor to dopa, dopamine, norepinephrine (noradrenaline) and epinephrine (adrenaline). It is known to be a necessary constituent of normal brain function but can be synthesized from phenylalanine. Tyrosine has been found to be useful in some researched cases of depression which are not especially amenable to treatment with tryptophan or tryptophan inducing formulas. It readily passes through the brain-blood barrier, reacting positively with the BCAA's (branched chain amino acids). It is thought to be primarily concentrated in brain tubulin, an intracellular protein that is important for the formation, structure and integrity of neurons and neural pathways, the important message sending "devices" of the brain. Nutritional Caution: It should be noted that the new artificial sweetener aspartame, which contains phenylalanine (a precursor to tyrosine), increases brain tyrosine; this may have some beneficial effects on those suffering from depression, but may worsen those who are manic- or schizophrenic-inclined. Tyrosine is also found in high concentration within muscle tissue.

Cysteine (L-Cysteine, N-Acetyl-Cysteine) Probably the most exciting and important role for the amino acid cysteine, or L-Cysteine as it is found in nature, is its properties of helping the body scavenge and rid itself of poisonous materials. In the liver, cysteine helps another amino acid called glutathione to detoxify carcinogens and other dangerous chemicals. In all the rest of the cells of the body, it is thought to serve as the major scavenger of hazardous oxidants. L-Cysteine acts to protect the cells of the alveoli in the lungs against damage of cigarette smoke, specifically the chemicals of acrolein, formaldehyde and acetaldehyde found in cigarette smoke. The tar and other toxic chemicals within cigarette smoke are known to impair the alveoli's scavenger macrophages to engulf and kill bacteria. Cysteine, along with vitamin C improves the bactericidal effectiveness of these cells. Also, because of the select thiol grouping (-SH) at the ending of this amino group, cysteine is the amino acid which gives glutathione its antioxidant powers and properties. In fact, how much cysteine is available to the body is believed to directly affect how much glutathione is produced and used as an antioxidant! Recent research also indicates that it alone could provide protection against HIV-1. Low levels of glutathione in CD4 T-cells are linked to decreased survival rates for HIV-positive individuals. Orally administered NAC (n-acetylcysteine) and glutamine, nutritional precursors of GSH (but cheaper than pure GSH), worked very well in restoring whole blood glutathione levels, and those with low CD4 cells survived twice as long when taking NAC and glutamate supplements. The authors report that replenishing glutathione levels might be a key to improving survival of HIV-positive patients, however more studies are needed. (Herzenberg, L.A., et al, Glutathione deficiency is associated with impaired survival in HIV disease, Pro Natl Acad Sci, 1997, 94: 1967-1972.). See GlutathioneAlong with stimulating L-Glutathione supplies in the body, NAC, a form of L-Cysteine has been shown to raise the levels of HDL Cholesterol (the good or protective type of cholesterol) NAC splits the Lp(a) and its sticky protein band apart on the cholesterol molecule, which acts to render it harmless. NAC also acts to reduce levels of homocyeine, protecting against homocytein's damaging effects on the arteriesSkin texture and flexibility are thought to be related to cysteine function by virtue of free radical inactivation, although more research has yet to be done on this.

Cystine (L-Cystine) Cystine is usually found in its natural form L-Cystine. This amino acid is an integral part of the insulin molecule and therefore thought to be one of the reasons for its necessity, especially in glucose metabolism and fatty acid use. It is thought to be useful as well in the natural care and nurturing of new tissue orchestrated by the body. Its sulfur-rich amino group has been found useful in soothing and caring for a variety of skin conditions.Made from the bonding of two cysteine molecules, very little is found in its free form within the bloodstream. Cystine helps hold other protein molecules in shape as they are being transported around the body, and it is this amino acid that gives or determines the form and mechanical properties of many animal and plant proteins, including your skin! For example, the fibrous protein gluten (made from cystine) gives wheat dough its elasticity, and high cystine keratin (16% of keratin is cystine), makes tortoise shell hard and human hair curly or straight. It may allow balding men to help retain their hair (unproven), and allows skin to appear smooth and supple instead of rough and patchy.

DL-Methionine

DLPA

Glutamic Acid (L-Glutamic Acid)-Under certain conditions, L-Glutamic acid is an essential amino acid. Glutamic acid along with Glutamine, are the dominant amino acids of the cerebrospinal fluid and serum. Known as one of the notorious three musketeers in brain neurochemistry, Glutamic acid is a uniquely powerful brain food, an excitatory neurotransmitter which paradoxically can give rise to GABA, an inhibitory and balancing neurotransmitter within the brain. Glutamic acid is found in concentration within the hippocampus (the memory centers of the brain), in cranial nerves as well as other areas of information transfer to effect motor response. This amino acid is essential for the production of other nonessential amino acids, a process called "transamination."

GABA (Gamma-aminobutyric acid) GABA (g-aminobutyric acid), one of the major inhibitory Amino Acid neurotransmitters of the central nervous system, is known to be an active a1- & a2-adrenergic antagonist, helping the body to relax the smooth muscle of arteries and veins. It acts via the GABA-A and GABA-B cell receptors to prevent neuronal depolarization and firing of an action potential occurring in muscles, stopping the muscle from contracting. An action potential is a rapid, transient, self-propagating electrical excitation of the membrane of electrically excitable cells, also known as a spike or nerve impulse (in neurons). Action potentials occur in nerve, muscle, and neuroendocrine cells and are generated and propagated through the actions of voltage-gated ion channels. An action potential is essentially a brief (approx. 1 ms long), regenerative change in the membrane potential which occurs in electrically excitable cells such as the smooth muscle in veins and arteries. Action potentials are essentially digital signals which encode information as a temporal sequence. With GABA, G-protein coupled receptor sites (the largest super family of cell-surface receptors) are competed for in smooth muscle, ensuring that smooth muscle of arteries and veins relaxes, and that action potentials do not fire. As the smooth muscle relaxes, arteries and veins begin to vasodilate, increasing their circumference, allowing more blood to flow which subsequently reduces blood pressure throughout the circulatory system.GABA, a quasi-amino acid, is thought to be one of the most powerful inhibitory neurotransmitters in the central nervous system operating as a chemical messenger to its neighbors. GABA is important in helping the body to naturally regulate nerve function and enhance the ability of vitamin B3 (niacin) to act. This is an amino acid which can be derived from yet another amino acid, glutamic acid. GABA, one of the so called three musketeers (GABA, Glutamine [GAM] and Glutamic acid [GA]), is believed to be capable of providing needed nutrition and energy for the brain.GABA has generally been found to be deficient in clinical and experimental seizure disorders and is the most widely distributed inhibitory neurotransmitter in the brain. GABA is helpful in bringing calmness to the body, promoting tranquility and peace in times of stress and anxiety. It is also a known precursor to another important neurotransmitter, gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB), which is a natural sleep inducing compound in the brain, encouraging the body to produce its own native tryptophan, which in turn is the natural precursor to the sleep neurotransmitter serotonin.

Glycine (L-Glycine) This is an amino acid known to be the simplest molecular amino known, essential for the natural production of bile acids and nucleic acids. This is an important amino acid which is part of the tripeptide glutathione, a detoxifying agent essential for good health. Glycine is known to be a hypolipidemic agent (it acts to reduce lipid synthesis) and aids in the further reduction of cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood plasma. L-Glycine also acts like taurine in its natural calming properties. It is a major inhibitory neurotransmitter of the brain, readily and easily passing the brain-blood barrier, working in conjunction with GABA and Taurine as a natural anticonvulsant. Interestingly, depressed and epileptic patients often have low glycine levels in their plasma. Glycine is essentially important, too, in the photochemical reaction of the eye and is necessary for good vision. It is an important nutrient in wound healing, giving the skin its natural elasticity and bounce, protecting us from premature sagging and wilt, being a necessary constituent of collagen. In fact, glycine in the form of gelatin, a protein which is made up of 33% glycine, has been found to be useful in wound healing.

Glutathione (L-Glutathione, GSH)- This is the amino acid that is known as "the" toxic waste neutralizer of the body. Although it is a small tripeptide made up of only three amino acids: cysteine, glutamate and glycine. L-Glutathione is perhaps the body's most powerful antioxidant and detoxifying agent. It is especially powerful in its "reduced" form; GSH. In fact, there is not a living substance upon the face of the earth that does not have this protective substance within itself. It plays five major roles within the body. First it is a reducing agent, nutritionally protecting the body against powerful natural and man-made oxidants. It is known to maintain the iron of hemoglobin in its reduced (ferrous) state. Second, it is thought to be a natural scavenger, nutritionally aiding the liver in the process of detoxifying the blood from poisonous substances. Thirdly, it is directly active in nutritionally maintaining several aspects of proper immune function. Fourthly, its natural powers inherent in the crucial thiol group (-SH) are thought to help nutritionally protect the integrity of red blood cells by preserving their cell membranes. And fifth, it is a neurotransmitter, possibly being involved with thyroid production as well as being necessary in promoting the lactation of women. Overall, glutathione has shown to reverse the damage caused by oxidative stress to the body, relieving inflammation. GSH acts as a substrate for peroxidase reactions, helping to destroy peroxides generated by oxidases. In this capacity, glutathione seems to give added protection against damage to nerve cells which leads to peripheral neuropathy. GSH is also involved with leukotriene biosynthesis and the balance between its reduced (GSH) and oxidized (GSSH) forms maintains the sulfhydryl groups of intracellular proteins in their correct oxidative states. Recent research also indicates that it alone could provide protection against HIV-1, low levels of glutathione in CD4 T-cells are linked to decreased survival rates for HIV-positive individuals. (Herzenberg, L.A., et al, Glutathione deficiency is associated with impaired survival in HIV disease, Pro Natl Acad Sci, 1997, 94: 1967-1972.)Researches from Japan (Biol Pharm Bull, 93; 16 [9], 870-5) have found that within the lens of the eye, levels of L-Glutathione significantly decrease with age, and that changes in glutathione levels significantly increase the vulnerability of the lens to cataract formation; the leading cause of impaired vision. And specifically, high levels of glutathione afford protection for a number of lens related functions. L-Glutathione is a powerful, and perhaps the most available, antioxidant to the body. Glutathione, in its antioxidant strength, protects the sulfur-containing proteins from oxidizing or free radical damage. When proteins become oxidized within the lens of the eye, they become more opaque, clouding the lens, and stopping light from entering. Glutathione is also necessary in maintaining the Sodium-Potassium Pump of the body and specifically its ability to move sodium, potassium and calcium salts in and out of the lens itself. And again, if these salts are disproportionate, cloudiness sets in and vision is obscured. As Japanese researchers have pointed out, most cases of cataracts may be linked to scant supplies of glutathione within the body, something that can easily be prevented with appropriate supplementation. Recently in California, researchers have found that macular degeneration, the deterioration of the macular at the back of the retina, was correlated to low glutathione levels as well (British Journal of Ophthalmology, 94; 78 [10], 791-4), and when taking into consideration other variables such as smoking, age, cardiovascular disease and multivitamin use, depletion of glutathione by itself was thought to be a major contributing factor behind macular degeneration.

Catechol (Catecholamines)- Catechols are the direct precursors of neurochemicals called catecholamines which are biologically active amines derived from the amino acid Tyrosine. They are natural occurring hormonal-like neurotransmitters, substances that act as extra cellular messengers between the brain, central nervous tissue, cardiovascular and endocrine systems.  Can be released during periods of stress, causing glycogen mobilization and triglyceride hydrolysis.

Pregnenolone -Pregnenolone is an all natural hormone (steroid) produced in the mitochondria of healthy adrenal glands, liver, skin, brain, testicles, ovaries and the retina of the eyes. It is made from cholesterol in the body. Pregnenolone actually helps to stimulate its own synthesis, so taking an extra supplement does not interfere, but actually helps, in its own natural production. Enzymes convert pregnenolone into either progesterone of DHEA (pregnenolone is the real "mother" hormone, as it is its chemical precursor), depending on the immediate needs of the body. The need of pregnenolone increases as we grow older, or the more often we are sick. Depressed patients have been found to have abnormally low levels of pregnenolone, as well as those that suffer from rheumatoid arthritis. Pregnenolone acts on NMDA (N-methyl-D-Aspartate) receptors which directly affect learning and memory by regulating the function the synapses between the neurons. Researchers report that pregnenolone is several hundred times more potent than any memory enhancer that has been used before.  Pregnenolone appears to restore normal levels of memory hormones which decline during aging. Drugs that block cholesterol formation may in fact detrimentally block pregnenolone production thus interfering with memory and other brain function. Pregnenolone seems to have the ability of repairing the enzymes in the cytochrome P-450 system which are directly responsible for converting cholesterol into pregnenolone. Pregnenolone also appears to protect against the ravages of cortisone activity, which can decrease beta cell damage. Pregnenolone also seems to protect against "addison disease" symptoms from adrenal atrophy.

Trifolium Pratense (trans-cis-cloramide)- This is an especially useful herb when taken internally for the care of weeping and itching skin problems, as well as patches of rough, dry skin. Most exhilarating when used in combination with Viola tricolor and Nettles. It soothes the skin while allowing prompt refurbishment. Known to be a tea of the Queens of England, aiding in the preservation of soft, rich, milky skin, and perhaps leading to the notion of their inherently creamy white skin. Red Clover has an important phytomedicinally active component called trans-cis-chloramide, one of the direct precursors to dopamine, a critically important catecholamine within the central nervous system, often depleted in those experiencing some form of neurological deterioration or common underdevelopment (ADD/ADHD). Red Clover Blossoms have also demonstrated some profound anticancer effects because of a phytomedicinally inherent substance called genisteine, a phytoestrogen, which stops production of orth-phospho-tyrosine (OPT). OPT is a growth factor which is used as a major marker in cancer patients: the lower OPT levels the better the prognosis.

Flax Seed (Flax Seed Powder, Linum usitatissimum)- Flax was widely, if not extensively, in use in Ancient Egypt. Seeds and cloth have even been found in the pyramids. It has many biblical references; its use for sails is mentioned in Homer's Odyssey. There is an ancient Bohemian belief that if children dance among flax when they are about seven years old, they will grow up beautiful. The plant was considered to be under the protection of the Teutonic goddess Hulda, who taught mortals the art of growing, spinning and weaving it. Linseed is used mainly for coughs; the oil, mixed with lime water, relieves burns and scalds. In sufficient quantities Flax Seed has gentle laxative effects due to increases in volume and consequent initiation of intestinal peristalsis due to stretching reflexes, and there is a helpful protective effect on the mucosa because of the coating action. More recently, Flax seed is valued because of the many essential fatty acids it contains, including Omega 3's and Omega-6's, and their usefulness in the development and repair of the neurophysiology.

Pyridoxine HCL-B6 This is a vitamin that aids the body in the metabolism of protein and fat by participating actively in many chemical reactions (more than a 100 enzyme reactions) of protein and amino acid synthesis and degradation. It also helps with normal brain function, and the formation of red blood cells. Vitamin B-6 may help maintain chemical balance among body fluids while promoting healthy eyes, tongue and nervous system. Vitamin B-6 is thought to be especially helpful in aiding the body in preventing cracks at mouth corners, skin breakouts, and other stress-related skin problems. The lack of B6 will reduce the formation of niacin from tryptophan and can cause homocysteinuria and oxaluria that may have serious consequences. Indeed, B6 deficiency results in an increased formation of stones (calcium oxalate) in the kidneys and/or throughout the urinary tract system and the retention of homocystine in the blood, contributing to the development of atherosclerosis (cardiovascular disease). Results of a recent meta-analysis in Oxford, England at the Radcliffe Infirmary demonstrated that Vitamin B12 and Folic Acid (and to a lesser extend Vitamin B6, whose presence is necessary to convert homocysteine to the amino acid L-cysteine) were necessary vitamins involved in the body's cleansing process called methylation, wherein dangerous homocysteine levels are reduced. Lowering homocysteine levels has indicated a reduction in the risk of cardiovascular disease by as much as 30%-40% (BMJ, 316(7135):894-898, March1998).

Calcium Pantothenate-B5 This vitamin, also important in protecting the body against stress, aids the body in the release of energy from food. Vitamin B-5, when used in conjunction with vitamin B-6 and vitamin C, assists the body in the relief of a runny and stuffed-up nose. It plays a role in the production of the adrenal hormones and the formation of antibodies, aids in vitamin utilization, and helps to convert fats, carbohydrates, and proteins into energy. It is needed for the normal functioning of the gastrointestinal tract and adrenal glands and may be helpful in treating depression and anxiety. Of external benefit, this vitamin is commonly used in shampoos and conditioners because it's believed to thicken and repair damaged hair. When utilized with PABA, folic acid and L-Cysteine, it may help restore color to gray hair.

Magnesium Aspartate- A supplemental form of magnesium critical for energy production and proper nerve function. It is considered the "anti-stress" mineral. As a natural tranquilizer it relaxes the skeletal muscles as well as smoothing the muscles of blood vessels. It is essential for metabolic functions in the body. It is important in the production and transfer of energy, in muscle contraction and relaxation, in nerve conduction, in protein synthesis, and in many biochemical reactions as a cofactor to enzymes. Magnesium is also thought to dilate the blood vessels. Deficiency causes sensitiveness to noise, nervousness, irritability, mental depression, confusion, twitching, trembling, apprehension, insomnia, muscle weakness and cramps in the toes, feet, legs or fingers. Feelings of anxiety linked to increased levels of adrenaline can also result from a deficiency in this mineral.

OptiZinc (zincmonomethione) An antioxidant made by the InterHealth Co. in California, the same company that makes ChromeMate & ActiVin. OptiZinc has demonstrated synergistic effects with other antioxidants, far surpassing the abilities of common vitamin antioxidants such as vitamin A, E, and C. The antioxidant power of OptiZinc has been confirmed in multiple university-based studies. It also helps glutathione reserves in the body, as well as possibly reduce homocysteine levels because of its molecular configuration.

Niacinamide-B3-- A critical vitamin for anti-stress, helping the body in general healing. It also assists in the functioning of the nervous system; in the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins; and in the production of hydrochloric acid for the digestive system. This vitamin aids the body in maintaining normal skin function as well, releasing trapped sebum which can cause skin problems, and helps protect against pollutants and toxins that are known to cause early signs of aging.

Radix heraclei- This select Chinese herb has been used for centuries to reduce unwanted internal pressure, relieve stress and provide for balance while comforting the system. Often used by herbalists to release tension that is often inappropriately trapped and subsequently creating body and emotional rigidness. Useful as well for the soothing of over-activity in children.

Gotu Kola (Centella asiatica, Hydrocotyle asiatica)- This herb dates back to India where it enjoyed a reputation of being a plant which promoted longevity, and has some historical significance too, in that it has been used by religious organizations which claim that it heightens spiritual powers. More practically, their leaves are known to have a marked nutritionally energizing effect on the brain without increasing stress. Often confused with the kola nut, it is not related; nor does Gotu Kola contain any caffeine. In fact, its properties are said to allow a brightness of the spirit while bestowing a calming influence at the same time. It contains a natural soothing agent believed to stimulate the energy levels within the body without raising stress levels. This legendary herb is also considered a "tonic," a natural water eliminator, stimulating the body to release stored water masses. Several studies have shown that Centella aids in the development of strong connective tissue, actually stimulating the production of compounds which make up the "ground substance" where collagen fibers are embedded. Centella has also demonstrated some enhancement of the venous flow into the lower limbs, aiding in some improvement of varicose veins. The extract's effect on cellulite appears to be linked to this latter capacity for its ability to promote connective tissue structure and reduce sclerosis of target areas (hardening).

Ginkgo Biloba (Ginkgo Biloba Extract) Although this is a common tree in Asia, and now used ornamentally in American suburbs, it was not known in the West until the 17th century. The secret of its believed powers lies in its leaves, as was first discovered by the Chinese some 5,000 years ago and later confirmed by western science. Quite interestingly is the fact that the Ginkgo Biloba tree is the longest surviving tree on earth, its genus being over 200 million years old, and an individual tree may live to be 1000 years old. Towering over 100 feet in the air and having a diameter of 4 feet, many have called this magisterial tree the "tree of life."Historically, it is known to reduce feverish body warmth, provide brain nutrients which possibly aid in memory processing and mental clarity while preserving function in the elderly, possibly because of its powerful antioxidant activity, and providing resistance against deterioration by increasing nutritional supplies to the important energy centers within the body. It is said to have particular properties which may help and complement the body's natural ability to strengthen the cardiovascular system, neutralize free radical damage, aid in the elimination of toxins and wastes, and prevent water retention in delicate tissue areas, reduce common annoyances associated with breathing while protecting the delicate areas within our bodies that help us take up oxygen, while promoting the oxygenation of the cells as well. This herb/tree is now the most popular in all of China and Europe.Science has finally discovered why the Ginkgo Biloba tree has been so useful throughout the ages. It's been found that the tree actually produces a series of natural flavonoids which may aid in the body's ability to heal itself and decrease unwanted disruption. Also included within the components of Ginkgo are isorhamnetin, proanthocyanidins (powerful antioxidants), terpenes, carotenoids and superoxide dismutase (SOD, yet another powerful antioxidant), increasing its cerebro-protective effects and the efficiencies of brain energy metabolism while elevating pyruvate and lowering lactate concentrations. Ginkgo also exhibits remarkable neurotransmitter modulating activity, and can therefore be effective in counteracting aging of the brain and may even be useful for preventing and treating senility, Alzheimer's/dementia, depression, memory loss, tinnitus, arterial insufficiency in the limbs, all of which grow more threatening every day we age.The Ginkgo tree quite amazingly produces rare substances called Ginkgolides, substances which science has discovered prevent the inappropriate clotting of blood. Ginkgolides interfere with the ability of the blood platelets to prematurely start the clotting process known as the platelet activating factor, or PAT for short. It is this same clotting factor that is known to be one of the components which prematurely and wrongly triggers allergic inflammation and toxic shock in immune dysfunction. Ginkgolides also are thought to aid the body's inhibition of the defense system. The Ginkgolides are reportedly known to inhibit this reaction effectively, as was reported in the prestigious British medical journal, The Lancet, 1987. Lastly, Ginkgo extracts have demonstrated usefulness in the treatment of male arterial erectile dysfunction, directly causing sure increases in flow of blood in both arteries and veins, without any threatening change in blood pressure. After 6 months of treatment, 95% demonstrated improvement, 50% tested regained potency. Also used as a Homeopathic or used simply as a micro-nutritional for hypertension and problems with blood circulation. (Homeopathic potencies accredit their strength and efficacy to the electromagnetic signatures of the original substrate; these are scientifically created dilutions and succussions of medicines such that generally not even a molecule of the original substrate or medicine is present in the medicine). As a Homeopathic or used simply as a micro-nutritional, it has demonstrated effectiveness against the following symptomology: general uneasiness and sensation of oppression; -heaviness of frontal region of head; vertigo; sense of fullness within the head; -buzzing and sensation of blockage in ears; -pressive precordial pain and pain along the sternum with lameness of left arm (Julian).

Chromium (ChromeMate GTF, Chromium polynicotinate)- This is a very important mineral which works with vitamin B3 (niacinamide) in maintaining blood sugar levels. It is a true Glucose Tolerance Factor and has recently been given a US Patent because of this singular nutritional importance, plus two more because of its ability to lower cholesterol. Only one such Chromium product actually satisfies all of Dr. Mertz's laws to be established as a true GTF, and ChromeMate is that Chromium source. In such form, chromium is known to activate enzymes for carbohydrates, fat, and protein metabolism. Chromium is also thought to aid the body in improving its circulation for healthy skin and hair.

DMAE (Dimethylaminoethanol, DMAE bitartrate) DMAE [(CH3)2NH.CH3Ch2OH)] is a free radical chain transfer agent, slowing the aging of the central nervous system, as well as preventing the formation of other possible contaminants and age pigments such as ceroid (which accumulates in the liver) and amyloid (which is known to attack the Central Nervous System of Alzheimer's victims). It also reverses the production of lipofuscin (or age/liver spots in the skin and nervous system), as well as preventing fatty acids from becoming oxidized and rancid. Lipofuscin appears to both directly and indirectly inhibit Dopamine (Dopamine is one of the 3 major neurotransmitters of the brain), production and transmission. Thus, DMAE has more antiaging properties which not only prevents aging, but as in the case of age spots, can actually reverse the occurrence of aging, than most other Vitamins and antioxidants. Of course when used in correctly formulated combinations, these effects are only enhanced further. Lipofuscin itself has been shown to accumulate in the brain and nerve cells, killing off neurons by inhibiting dendrite expansion by blocking the flow of vital nutrients from within nerve cells. Lipofuscin may be related, as a precursor, to amyloid formations (yet another toxic pigment formed as the residues of failed autoimmune attacks) found to be inappropriately inhabiting and eventually killing off the neural cells of Alzheimer's victims. Lipofuscin age pigment forms especially rapidly in the dopamine-dependent tracts of the brain, plugging these pathways up and inhibiting dopamine to act. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter which affects sexuality, locomotion, mood, tissue growth and repair. Encephalitis lethargic or sleeping sickness, Parkinson's Disease and Catatonia in Schizophrenia are known to be correlated with low dopamine populations within the brain. Interestingly, dopamine populations also decline with age as lipofuscin increases. Thus lipofuscin appears to both directly and indirectly inhibit Dopamine production and transmission. Dopamine also falls prey to autoxidation, producing free radicals and hydrogen peroxide which damage dopaminergic nerve receptors. (PARENTHETIC WARNING: Common sense suggests that ingesting hydrogen peroxide in any form as a dietary supplement of any kind is likely dangerous, therefore, promoting dopamine receptor damage throughout the Central Nervous System.)

Pycnogenol (Oligomeric proanthocyanidins) Pycnogenol, a patented select group of water-soluble polyphenols produced by Horphag Research, Ltd., pycnogenol contains a selective array of water soluble (which makes them very bioavailable) polyphenols called Oligomeric Proanthocyanidins (OPC's), (The active ingredients are catechins, epicatechins, their dimers and oligomers, and organic acids. The most potent antiradicals are the dimeric proanthocyanidins (PACs), built from the catechins and the epicatechins) derived from white pine bark containing powerful antioxidants useful for the strengthening of blood capillaries throughout the body. Pycnogenol is 80% to 85% PACs, 5% catechin and epicatechin, and 2%-4% organic acids including caffeic acid (onions), ferulic acid (found in spinach and parsley), fumaric acid (chives and beet root) and gallic acid (eggplant), vanillic acid, taxifolin, protocateuhuic acid and cinnamic acid. Research confirms that Pycnogenol is around 50 times more powerful than Vitamin E in its antioxidant properties, and 20 times more powerful than vitamin C. The body cannot manufacture OPC's- polyphenols and must obtain them from foods. However, most polyphenols, including OPC's, bioflavonoids and flavanols, are derived from foods are not water soluble, and thus are harder to assimilate. Pycnogenol is water soluble and thus arguably more powerful. OPC's and bioflavonoids with vitamin C work together in keeping the intracellular cement (collagen) in a healthy condition. They also increase the strength of capillaries and help to regulate their permeability. Pycnogenol in particular has been found to be exceptionally useful for fighting against capillary fragility and varicose veins, diabetic retinopathy, swollen legs and other inflammatory conditions in veins and capillaries.

Pine Bark Extract (Pine Bark Extract 4x, Pinetree)- In lotions and topical applications such as Vaxa's, this is an effective refreshing cleanser. It is historically a hygienic "must", providing a pleasing aroma to the body and hair. Wonderful for the hair, too, in adding highlights while strengthening the hair shaft, no doubt because of the number and array of bioflavonoids present. The bark of the Pine tree, especially Pinus maritimus, yields a bevy of bioflavonoids (over 2,000 of them), including those phytochemicals (OPC's) that make up Pycnogenol, a very effective antioxidant and essential ingredient useful for the strengthening of blood capillaries throughout the body. It is the bark, high in natural vitamin C and bioflavonoids, of the pine tree which the Indians shared with the Europeans, which subsequently cured their disease of scurvy. Sadly, it took over 200 hundred years for this knowledge to become acceptable and useful to mankind as a whole. White Pine Bark (White Pine Bark Extract, Pinus Ma This particular bark has historically been used as a rich source of Vitamin C-like compounds and the Proanthocyanidian Bioflavonoids. These powerful antioxidant ingredients have been found to be useful for immune system enhancement, as well as providing strength and integrity to connective tissue, capillaries and veins, thus useful in strengthening the fragility of capillaries and preventing, if not diminishing varicose veins. The proprietary proanthocyanidian antioxidant complex, Pycnogenol, is notably derived from white pine bark alone, and therefore does not contain all the active bioflavonoids present in white pine bark.

NADH (CoEnzyme 1) Mol.Wt. 663. This is a coenzyme form of the vitamin niacin, used to exchange hydrogen atoms with substrate molecules. NAD or NADH is necessary for tissue respiration, through its association with the dehydrogenases. Lactate dehydrogenase, malate dehydrogenase, and beta-hydroxybutyrate dehydrogenase are examples of enzymes that require NAD as a coenzyme. It is through the oxidation of NADH that accounts for the major conversion of oxidation energy to chemical energy, ATP, involved in glycolysis.

Sodium Bicarbonate A natural alkalizing agent which can be naturally produced by the body, Sodium Bicarbonate is essential in establishing safe pH levels within the body's intracellular spaces, interstitial fluids and cardiovascular system.

Phosphatidylcholine- An essential and critical member of a class of phospholipids (phosphatides) found in all tissues, especially in brain and nerve tissues. This is the more biologically active form of choline ( a Vitamin B cofactor) which is an important precursor of the excitatory neurotransmitter acetylcholine, the major "memory" molecule of the brain often found depleted in those with Alzheimers' disease. Without Phosphatidylcholine, Acetylcholine cannot be produced, which then ceases the release of Vasopressin (necessary for learning) and Dopamine (necessary for new dendrite growth and neural expansion so that learning can occur).Additionally, free (or unattached) choline, as well as Inositol, are often referred to as "lipotropic substances" in that they are required for the removal of fats from the liver and cardiovascular system. Much of the phosphatidylcholine and phosphatidylinositol in human tissue is part of the intracellular and plasma membranes as well as in the myelin surrounding neural tissues.

Phosphatidylethanolamine- An essential and critical member of a class of phospholipids (phosphatides) found in all tissues, especially in brain and nerve tissues. Useful in converting free serine into choline, increasing levels of acetylcholine and energizing cholinergic pathways, thus producing a mild increase in memory and retrieval efficiencies, as well as improving, with phosphatidylinositol, coordination and balance.

Phosphatidylserine- An essential and critical member of a class of phospholipids (phosphatides) found in all tissues, especially in brain and nerve tissues. Free serine can be converted into choline via phosphatdylethanolamine with the help of methyl groups from methionine. Most often found in the cytoplasmic side of cell membranes and is negatively charged, often having a synergistic effect on healing of membranes when in the presence of prothrombin and other healing cofactors (Factor Va, Ca2+, Vitamin K) -- Thus thought essential in the formation and maintenance of neural tissue and neural membranes.

Phosphatidylinositol- An essential and critical member of a class of phospholipids (phosphatides) found in all tissues, especially in brain and nerve tissues where it acts as a precursor for neurotransmitters. Free inositol is also found in high concentrations within the lens of the eye. Inositol deficiency is associated with excessive fat buildup in the liver. Inositol, as well as choline, are often referred to as "lipotropic substances" in that they are required for the removal of fats from the liver and cardiovascular system. Deprivation may lead to motor nerve coordination impairment associated with diabetes and kidney disease.

Medium Chain Triglycerides Medium Chain Triglycerides: A class of fatty acids that can be found in coconut oil and butter. They are rapidly absorbed by the body and burned up as energy.

Caprylic Acid- A partially water-soluble medium-chain saturated fatty acid. Can be produced by the body in small quantities and can be extracted from plant fats such as coconut oil and plam oil. It is rapidly reduced to coenzyme A in the liver. It is a component of synthetic medium chain triglyceride supplements comprising approximately 70% of total fatty acids.

Lauric Acid- A fatty acid ocurring in laurel, coconut and palm oils. As one of the medium-length long-chain fatty acids, lauric acid is part of the class of organic compounds known as lipids, which are vital in the construction of cellular membranes. Forms monolaurin in the human or animal body.

Myristic Acid- A saturated 14 carbon saturated acid occuring in most animal and vegetables - particularly in butterfat and coconut, palm and nutmeg oils.

Palmitic Acid A saturated 16-carbon fatty acid that represents 10-20% of the normal human dietary fat intake. Also called hexadecanoic acid, it is one of the most common saturated fatty acids found in animals and plants. It is found in butter, cheese, milk and meat and it is the first fatty acid produced during lipogenesis from which longer fatty acids can be produced.

Stearic Acid EFAs are those fatty acids which are necessary for normal nutrition and which cannot be synthesized by the body from other substances. Linoleic (C:18:2 - an Omega-6 fatty acid) and linolenic (C180:3 - an Omega-3 fatty acid) are essential fatty acids; both are polyunsaturated and serve as precursors to prostaglandins, thromboxanes and leukotrienes (which are collectively known as eicosanoids), which produce a variety of physiological effects on blood aggregation, vasodilation and vasoconstriction. Arachidonic acid (AA) is sometimes classified as essential but it can be synthesized from linoleic acid. An ethanolamide of AA is anandamide which has demonstrated analgesic qualities along with PAEA (Palmitylethanolamide), an aceylethanolamide found in neural and non-neural tissues which acts to inhibit mast-cell activation and reduces inflammatory responses by a mechanism that may involve binding to CB2 receptors (endogenous cannabinoids). Thus, PAEA manifests analgesic qualities outside the central nervous system, and has some part to play in the regulation of pain in cutaneous tissue. Interestingly, recent research finds support for the possibility that endogenous cannabinoids may participate in buffering emerging pain signals at sites of tissue injury along with PEA.Omega-3 fatty acids, (the major EFAs in fish oils) such as eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and decosahexaenoic acid (DHA), are especially abundant in brain phospholipids and are essential for the development and function of brain and retina cells, as well as sperm formation. Omega-3's have a number of beneficial effects being promoted as antithrombotic, anti-inflammatory and acting as vasodilators. Omega-6 fatty acids such as linoleic, alpha linolenic and gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) are found more prevalent in plants (eg. Evening Primrose, Borage, phytoplankton, mosses and ferns wheat and walnuts). The Omega-6's are critically important in acting as prostaglandin precursors as well as for many other eicosanoids. GLA in particular, as precursor to prostaglandins, is critical to the working of the Sodium-Potassium Pump throughout the body, and GLA is also known to allow blood to be "slippery," preventing the type of clots prevalent in heart attacks. In cerebral grey matter, DHA is about 30% of the fatty acid in phosphatidylserine and ethanolamine. Without sufficient quantities and varieties of EFA's, normal cerebral development can be retarded causing neurological deficiencies and difficulties including ADD/ADHD, MS, MD and other dysfunctions. It is estimated that adults need as much as 1%-2% of their daily caloric intake to be of Omega-6's, and 12%-14% for optimal health (40% of dietary fat). Optimal ratios have been suggested by researchers: Omega-3 to Omega-6 fatty acid ingestion should be in the ratio of 10:4. It is believed that higher ratios of Omega-6 to Omega-3 could lead to depletion of the latter in the phospholipid of vital organs as well as the following symptoms: Omega-6 deficiencies include growth retardation, sparse hair growth, a bran-like desquamation of the skin of the trunk, poor wound healing, and increased susceptibility to infection, especially in infants. Omega-3 deficiencies are more neurological in content including paresthesias, weakness, inability to walk, pain in the legs, blurred vision, and subtle neurological symptomology such as ADD/ADHD, minor depression, dyslexia, aphasia, etc.Omega-6 fatty acids are generally supplied in vegetable based oils, whereas Omega-3s are primarily found in fish oils. Other Omega-6 fatty acids include Palmitic (C16:0), Oleic (C18:1), Ecicosatrienoic Acid (C20:3). Other fatty acids, although not listed as "essential" are nonetheless critical short chain fats such as Capric Acid, Caproic Acid (C6:0), Caprylic Acid, medium chain triglycerides (C8-C10), Lauric acid (C12:0), Myristic acid (C14:0), Palmitoleic acid (C16:1), Stearic acid (C18:1), Arachidic Acid, and Decosanoic Acid (C12:0).An additional function of EFAs has recently been found to associated with healthy skin. A unique form of linoleic acid becomes bound to ceramides in the skin, forming a unique esterified interstial lipid in man which renders the skin impermeable to water and retains moisture. EFAs play numerous vital roles as substrates for regulatory signals and as structural elements in cell membranes and other barriers in the body. Polyunsaturated fatty acids are also required in the esterification of plasma cholesterol, necessary for its uptake as low density lipoprotein core material (LDL) and the normal excretion of sterols and bile acids. Interestingly, it has been shown that without EFAs in the diet, cholesterol and levels and triglycerides generally rise. So essential are the EFAs that some are now speaking about them as a class of vitamins, known as "VItamin F."

Linoleic Acid One of the Essential Fatty Acids (EFA's), a polyunsaturated Omega-6 fatty acid found in most vegetable oils. Critically essential in establishing a balanced neurology primed for optimal development. When depleted within the diet, it can lead to may neurobiological and metabolic difficulties and dysfunctions including cardiovascular disease and neuropathy. It also reinforces skin's protective moisture barrier and revives smoothness.

Gamma Linolenic Acid Gamma Linolenic Acid (GLA) is an essential fatty acid, Omega--6, is a component of the cell membrane that increases permeability and flexibility of cell membranes and helps regulate water loss, thus helping to prevent dehydration and other visible signs of premature aging. It is also involved with the entire cardiovascular and endocrine system balance. Also essential in the production of eicosanoids throughout the body.

Arachidic Acid See section on Essential Fatty Acids

EPA (Eicosapentaenoic Acid) One of the principal omega-3 fatty acids. Abbreviated EPA. The body has a limited ability to manufacture EPA by converting the non-essential alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) which is found in flaxseed oil, canola oil or walnuts.

Eicosatrienoic Acid Eicosatrienoic Acid is a rare polyunsaturated fatty acid.

Arachidonic Acid/Eicosanoic Acid See section on Essential Fatty Acids Arachidonic Acid Arachidonic Acid: A polyunsaturated fatty acid that is present in the membranes of the body’s cells and is highly enriched in the brain.

Decosahexaenoic Acid Decosahexaenoic Acid (DHA) is an omega 3 essential fatty acid (unsaturated fatty acid) that is found in fish oils. There have been shown in numerous studies that show DHA having the ability to lower blood triglyceride and to lower cholesterol levels as well as the ability to raise high density lipoprotein ( HDL), the good cholesterol.

ATTEND Homeopathics:

Homeopathics: Homeopathics are trace entities which can be of any substance and which can be diluted and succussed over several generations. These are scientifically created dilutions and succussions of the original substance such that generally not even a molecule of the original substrate is present in the final dilution. This process creates a Homeopathic potency which accredit their strength and efficacy to the electromagnetic signatures of the original substrate, magnified by the succession of dilution and succussions. Specific electromagnetic signatures exist weakly for each and all organic and inorganic materials. When organic and inorganic materials are processed through continuous dilutions and succussions, their electromagnetic signatures appear to grow more strongly. These amplified electromagnetic signatures can positively impact the body's cells, most of which have electromagnetic receptors on their external cell walls capable of picking up such signatures, just as a radio receiver picks up radio transmissions. Often the electromagnetic signature of a substance can impart cellular instructions to living cells, prompting renewed cellular integrity, repair, regeneration, protein synthesis, communication with other cells, and the flushing of toxins. Although the activity of homeopathics is still debated, it is clear that their activity is deeper than simple chemistry, but involves the electrochemical properties and physics of organic and inorganic substances instead, a "switching mechanism" which is more fundamental than, but causative to, biochemical reactions. Current research appears to be in the process of confirming these theoretical constructs.

Agaricus muscarius (Fly-agaric Mushroom)- Used as a Homeopathic medicine (botanical). (Homeopathic potencies accredit their strength and efficacy to the electromagnetic signatures of the original substrate; these are scientifically created dilutions and successions of medicines such that generally not even a molecule of the original substrate or medicine is present in the medicine). Cimicifuga racemosa (Black Cohosh, Black Snake Root)- Pharmacological studies have demonstrated that Black Cohosh contains substances which exhibit endocrine activity which is estrogen-like in character, causing selective reduction of the serum concentration of pituitary luteinizing hormone (LH) and/or able to bind to estrogen receptors. Thus estrogen-like action, luteinizing hormone suppression and a binding to estrogen receptors has been noted in the treatment of neurovegetative and psychic problems associated with the menopause and easing the symptoms of post-menopause, including depressed moods, hot and cold flashes with associated sweating, dryness of vagina, headaches, irregular periods, mood swings, nervousness and sleeping difficulties. Black cohosh is used widely in Europe and Great Britain as a safe alternative to synthetic hormone therapy and hormone replacement therapy. Recently, plant-based estrogen complexes (called phyto-estrogens), like those found in Black Cohosh, have been found to be completely safe and carry with it the added benefit of being anticarcinogenic (keep cells from becoming cancerous) and exhibit antiangiogenetic (tumor reducing) activities. Moreover, it was found that the use of phyto-estrogens are correlated with decreased rates of breast cancer over and above the general population. Yet interestingly, it was also found that non-plant based HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy) is linked to substantial increases in the risk for breast cancer, and the risk increases the longer non-plant based HRT is used. Black Cohosh is indicated for menopausal disorder, premenstrual complaints, dysmenorrhoea, uterine spasm, as well as muscular rheumatism and rheumatoid arthritis, and interestingly, tinnitus.Used as a Homeopathic or used simply as a micro-nutritional (botanical). Humulus lupulus (Cannabaceae, Hops) By the ninth century, Hops was being used as the herb of choice in the brewing and preserving of spirits and ales, but for many years this particular herb was not used in brewing in England because curiously it was thought to instill melancholy. However, by the sixteenth century this belief was finally expelled from England, and Hops went on to replace ground ivy and alecost as the basis of flavoring and preserving drink. In Europe, this herb was used for its "clearing" capacities and was generally thought to be effective when chewed raw. It is useful today for making one relaxed and sleepy, being a useful sleep aid for those experiencing excessive sleeplessness. It has been used both internally and cosmetically, the latter acting to soothe one's muscles in a warm bath, relaxing taut, stressed muscle groups and generally lulling one off to sleep. L-5HTP 5-HTP is the direct precursor to Serotonin, and a safe alternative to L-Tryptophan (Ironically, L-Tryptophan has been cleared of any role in the EMS outbreak, it being a problem of contamination and not with the amino acid itself, and is still used in infant formulas and parenteral IV solutions). 5-HTP is normally converted in the body from L-Tryptophan. Thus, 5-HTP is thought to be able to more directly influence Serotonin production within the Hypothalamus than L-Tryptophan did. 5-HTP is some 10 times more effective than ordinary L-Tryptophan. As Serotonin levels increase, so too can Melatonin levels which can aid in normalizing sleep patterns (just 2 steps further removed from Serotonin).

Green Tea Extract Known in China as cha, tea has been used by the Chinese as a potent medicinal herb since 3000 B.C. Common Green Tea or Chinese Tea, besides being a beverage that is consumed in almost every country in the world, is rich in fluoride and has been shown to boost the Immune System and combat skin and stomach cancers.Green tea is an herb of some importance for those wishing fast weight loss because it contains, among other phytochemicals, caffeine, theophyllines and other descrete methylxanthines, all of which act to stimulate the alkaloids within the beta-3 stimulators of brown adipose tissue and the liver (and increases the effectiveness of the amines in the Seville Orange - Advantra-Zr) but will not adversely affect the Central Nervous System, thus further increasing thermogenesis in the body. Green tea is much more efficacious and nutritional than black tea as black tea undergoes fermentation and thus many of the natural therapeutic benefits are destroyed.Green Tea is also extremely rich in the flavonoids, exhibiting a host of antioxidant properties. Green tea extract contains a potent antioxidant, Epigallocatechin Gallate (EGCG), which is over 200 times more powerful than vitamin E in neutralizing the pro-oxidants and free radicals that attack lipids in the brain. Recently, one of the bioflavonoids found in green tea, catechin has been found to protect blood vessels, alleviate allergic symptoms, and inhibit the action viruses. News from Japan's National Cancer Center Research Institute of Tokyo indicates that Green Teas may be the cheapest and most practical method for cancer prevention available to the public, especially protective against liver and digestive system cancer. When animals were given (-)epigallocatechin gallate (or EGCG, which is a tannic acid in the green tea) orally in the same amount as consumed daily by Japanese tea drinkers, it had a profound effect against liver and digestive system cancer. When test animals were given a digestive system carcinogen, only 20% developed the disease compared to 63% that developed in untreated animals. The Japanese state that these effects can be obtained by drinking only 10 small Chinese style teacups of green tea daily (or 1-2 American-sized cups), or taking green tea supplements. Research on Green Tea at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland (Journal of the National Cancer Institute, Dec 17, 1997) tested EGCG on numerous cancerous human and mouse cells of the skin, the lymphatic system and the prostate without affecting the normal cells. Test tube results showed an apoptosis (death of the cancer cells) in those cancers. EGCG is present in the amount of 200 mg in one cup (American size) of brewed green tea. Green Tea also appears also effective as an agent against skin cancer promoted by UV radiation, and fewer lung cancers, as reported by researchers at Rutgers University (Proceedings of the American Association for Cancer Research, 32, 1991).Interestingly, black Tea (which is green tea that has been allowed to ferment) has only 10% of the protective factors available to that of Green Tea. Green tea has significantly higher levels of beneficial chemicals called polyphenols than black tea.
